At The Peak: AKRoN
And The Pomeroy
From the Greek word ἄκρον, meaning the peak, the pinnacle, the leading edge, AKRoN Roofing lives up to its name with the completion of one of our most prestigious undertakings to date: the re-roofing of the iconic Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge.
AKRoN Roofing is proud to announce the successful completion of the roof installation at the Pomeroy Mountain Lodge in Kananaskis, a landmark project that stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence.
This project, which began in July 2024 and saw its final nail driven in January 2025, is not just another roof but a symbol of world-class craftsmanship, resilience, and beauty.

The Legacy Of The Lodge
The Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge is more than a destination, it's one of Alberta’s and indeed Canada’s crown jewels in resort excellence. Framed by towering peaks and surrounded by the untouched beauty of Kananaskis Country, this remarkable property is a true alpine sanctuary.
Built in the 1980s for the 1988 Winter Olympics, the lodge soon became known as a true alpine escape, blending natural grandeur with architectural sophistication.
In 2015, the lodge was acquired by Pomeroy Lodging, who launched an ambitious $26 million revitalization to preserve the lodge’s rustic alpine character while elevating it to modern luxury standards. This transformation further cemented its reputation as a premier mountain retreat.
Now part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, it continues to draw guests from around the world, not only for its hospitality, but also for the Kananaskis Nordic Spa, where steaming pools and open-air serenity create a uniquely Canadian wellness experience.
To be entrusted with restoring the roof over such an iconic destination is a responsibility AKRoN Roofing carried with the utmost pride.
Premium Materials &
Impeccable Installation
The CeDUR synthetic shake roofing selected for this project offers a stunning aesthetic that mirrors the charm of traditional hand-split cedar shakes, seamlessly blending with the lodge’s alpine surroundings. Crafted from a proprietary polyurethane blend, CeDUR shakes are molded from real cedar, capturing the deep grain patterns and natural texture of wood — without the vulnerabilities to rot, splitting, or insect damage. This product delivers the rustic appeal of natural wood while incorporating modern innovations in durability, impact resistance, and Class A fire performance. Unlike natural cedar, CeDUR will not fade, crack, or dry out over time, making it an ideal solution for harsh mountain climates. While CeDUR achieves an impressive visual impact, the installation required expert precision and customized layout strategies to ensure proper alignment, consistent exposure, and long-term performance — meeting the highest standards expected on a legacy lodge like the Pomeroy.

To minimize disruption to guests, the entire 100,000-square-foot cedar roof was removed and disposed of as quickly as possible. As workers tore off the existing roofing material, our roofers simultaneously installed underlayment and preparation materials to protect the exposed structure. This method allowed us to maintain efficiency and minimize exposure to the elements.
To ensure the highest level of performance, the Pomeroy Mountain Lodge roof features Sahara premium breathable underlayment, allowing for superior moisture management and longevity. Our installation process adhered to the strictest quality standards, utilizing Stinger Caps to securely fasten the underlayment, ensuring it remains in place under the harshest weather conditions.
The rooftop also features VMAX 301 ventilators by Ventilation Maximum, a Quebec-based company known for their high-performance, storm-resistant ventilation systems further enhancing airflow and attic health in the challenging mountain climate. These ventilators are engineered to stand above the snow line, ensuring continuous function through heavy winters, and deep snow loads. To address seasonal snow accumulation, Alpine SnowGuards PD30R snow retention systems were installed to safely manage snow loads and reduce the risk of sudden rooftop snow releases at the eaves.
