GAF, North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer and a part of Standard Industries, recently announced its Timberline HDZ shingles developed using the new and innovative LayerLock™ technology.
According to the company, these shingles combine the benefits of top-selling shingles and LayerLock technology that mechanically fuses the common bond in Timberline HDZ.
The shingles are used with GAF’s DuraGrip sealant to create a dual-phase shingle-to-shingle seal and asphalt-to-asphalt monolithic bond. In addition to this, the shingles provide a nailing area up to 600% larger than the nailing area of Timberline HD shingles. This increases nailing accuracy to 99.9% and improves the installation period by 30%.
LayerLock technology is GAF’s patented method of fusing the common bond to offer a new StrikeZone nailing area. According to the company, it took two years to combine all the benefits of one of its top-selling shingles with its LayerLock technology. As compared to their HD shingles, the StrikeZone nailing area is 2-inches wide which makes it 600% larger.
This technology features a dual-phase, shingle-to-shingle seal with GAF’s Dura Grip sealant. It also forms the bases of asphalt-to-asphalt monolithic bonds that enhance its durability, strength, and wind uplift performance.
Dave Ellis, vice president of residential marketing and new product development at GAF, explained,
“We invented the laminate shingle about 50 years ago, and this is the next generation, the newest generation. It was designed to address the biggest issues for our contractors, that’s labor, labor, labor.”
On the same topic, Jim Schnepper, president of GAF, said,
“Roofing contractors have been asking for new ways to help accelerate and grow their business, and we’re excited to introduce technology that can make their jobs faster and easier with Timberline HDZ shingles. This represents some of the most exciting innovations in the roofing industry today, backed by the quality and reliability homeowners have trusted for more than 130 years with GAF.”
When GAF Timberline HDZ Shingles are installed with the required combination of GAF accessories they become eligible for a wind warranty with no maximum wind speed limitation. This is an industry first. Check out the video to see this in action.
The manufacturer is so confident in its wind performance that it’s offering this GAF WindProven no-limit wind warranty. The company also announced that this is its first wind warranty for roofing shingles with no maximum wind speed limit with a four nail per shingle application.
While talking about the shingles, Ellis explained,
“We know from all of our market research that homeowners care about whether it looks good and has strength and durability, and we’re just raising the bar…in terms of wind coverage with HDZ and LayerLock.”
Apart from the no-limit wind warranty and faster installation, some of the other benefits of the Timberline HDZ shingles are:
